NFTS: Ryoo Seung-wan

The London Korean Film Festival and Nik Powell of the NFTS will be hosting a class with the excellent and acclaimed Ryoo Seung-wan.
In previous years our festival and the NFTS have teamed up to host director masterclasses with some of the best Korean filmmakers around including Park Chan-wook and Bong Joon-ho. This year we are bringing one of Korea's most commercially and crictically successful directors, Ryoo Seung-wan. Even though the director is still young he has managed to build a strong filmography of seven films over the last eleven years with four receiving international distribution including Crying Fist, City of Violence, Arahan and No Blood No Tears made available on DVD in the UK.
Ryoo Seung-wan burst onto the scene in 2000 with Die Bad, a film which has consistently been referred to as the best debut feature film from any Korean director. From their the director has created an action packed but still emotional strong stories with some of the best , contemporary actors including Choi Min-shik (Oldboy), Ryoo Seung-bum (Suicide Forecast), Jeon Do-yeon (Housemaid) and many others.
The director's complete work will be playing as part of this year's Director's Retrospective at the Apollo Cinema Regent St which will include a Q&A chaired by Tony Rayns for Crying Fist and the Closing Gala film, The Unjust.
